How-Tos

SOLID

Why SOLID?

“Solid is a mid-course correction for the Web”

Pod is where you store your data on SOLID. Think of it like, your own backpack which contains only the stuffs you own. Your identity - name, email, social media, you name it. Your web browsing history. Your pictures. Your notes.

You can pick up something of your choice in your backpack and show it to someone else. You also can get it back anytime any time you want.

Same with SOLID Pods, you can revoke someone's access to your data anytime. All your data is fully in your control.

There are two ways you can get your personal Pod!

We recommend the first option. Don’t worry, you will not be tied to any providers you choose - you totally have the ability to move your data anywhere you want!

Find the list of providers here.

As an example, suppose we want to use the provider solidcommunity.net hosted by Digital Ocean.

  1. Click on this link. The following page will show up!

As seen here, this is basically a server that powers all of our Solid activities. Think of a restaurant, the server as a waiter, and you are the client looking to order some food. This Solid server can interact with your Pod the same way as the waiter do with you! Taking order/requests and bringing/sending you what you need.
